COVID Variant MU Has Potential To Evade Immunity

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Director of The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), said the U.S. is taking the variant, named Mu, “very seriously,” but that it hasn’t yet taken an extensive hold in this country.

The WHO is monitoring a new coronavirus variant called “mu.” It has mutations that have the “potential to evade immunity” by a previous infection or vaccination, the WHO said.

MuVariant was first identified in Colombia & now in at least 39 countries

The preliminary data indicated that it may evade vaccines similar to the Beta variant, but experts said more research on the strain is necessary.

How many Covid variants are there?

The World Health Organization has designated variants Eta, Iota, Kappa, and Lambda “variants of interest” and is tracking 13 additional variants that originated in the U.S., Brazil, the Philippines, Indonesia, Colombia, and other nations.
